In 1 Corinthians 4, Paul not only talks about the sheer absurdity of human boasting, but also about the smug, self-satisfied spiritual life devoid of spiritual hunger. And after scolding the Corinthians, Paul reminds them that the gospel, ministry, and the church isn't mere message and ideas. It's embodied in a life, in persons living the gospel.
