Confronted with Jesus' invitation, "Come, follow me," the rich young ruler walks away sad. He leaves Jesus to return to his money; sad because the money to which he is returning isn't all it's cracked up to be, and sad because the Jesus he is turning away from is indeed the pearl of great value, worthy of an unequivocal response from himself and all of us through the ages.
