Jesus has come, "to preach good news to the poor," "to proclaim freedom for the prisoners," to bring "recovery of sight for the blind," and "to release the oppressed" (Luke 4:18-19). The Bible is very honest in depicting the human condition, even for those of us deluded by present comforts. We are in a tragic situation due to sin and brokenness, but the good news is that Jesus has come to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, the Year of Jubilee, when all are set free from their debts.
