Monday thru Saturday: One Source of Significance
What do you base your significance and security on? We draw our security from so many sources, all of which are flimsy grounds upon which to build our sense of significance. Appearance, achievement and approval are just a few of these. In particular we are so consumed with how we appear to others, and when we don't measure up, we resort to various tactics to make ourselves feel better. We compare ourselves to others, we become maladjusted to failure and we avoid situations where we are measured, and increasingly, we try to relieve that sense of insecurity by trying to "feel good" about ourselves and boosting our self-esteem. The Bible says these solutions will not work and that our insecurity amounts to a rejection of God's love for us. John 1:12 and Romans 8:17 state that being a child of God, resting in His love and having a clear sense of mission and purpose in the world are the proper sources of significance.
