Although in the father's house, we find that the older son in Luke 15 has long ago been lost in an altogether different sense: disconnected from his father's heart. He is, in fact, the disconnected, yet dutiful son. We find striking parallels in his heart with our own: wanting to obligate God, always trying to deserve our place rather than seeing the free gift of unconditional love which has always been God's one desire for us.
